vitCvitC  Why did Colway offer consumers its own vitamin C, when close to 8,000 different products with this same name have been admitted into markets in Europe.  In the present times can one develop a unique product in such a tightly saturated niche market?

It turned out to be possible. Close to 96% of the items purchased by consumers around the world, is usually synthesized in Chinese factories with American right-handed dextrose, crystalline ascorbic acid. A form, which for a million years was unknown to our bodies, and therefore, it poorly absorbs it.  The further 3% is a mixture of the former with vitamin extracted from biomass. Only a faint percentage constitute pure plant preparations. And then, however, the bioavailability of vitamin C in these products varies considerably. The best of vitamin C, which contain plant growth stems, are very rare on the market, as it is not a profitable business.

Buckwheat is a plant known for thousands of years in Eastern medicine and has been used to fight  problems such as high blood pressure, poor circulation, allergies, varicose veins, chilblains, capillary dysfunction and many others.  It also helps to fight the symptoms of premature aging.  It is a rich source of bioflavonoids, enzymes and other substances with pro-health properties.

Rutin, quercetin, hesperidin, hiperozyd, angiotensin and lipase inhibitors are produced from the harvested buckwheat.  They contain vitamins (B1, B2, P and PP),  protein (12% -15%) and eight valuable amino acids such as lysine (5-7%), lecithin, coenzyme Q10, lipids, minerals (iron, phosphorus and copper, nickel, cobalt, boron, zinc, calcium , magnesium, manganese, selenium, iodine) and organic acids (gallic, caffeic, chlorogenic and protocatechuic).

The extract of germinating buckwheat gives us levorotatory vitamin C which has the highest bioavailability (absorption of vitamin C in the human body).

In the mature grains of buckwheat Vitamin C is practically non-existent.  The extract from germinating seeds can contain up to 26% levorotatory vitamin C.

Freeze-dried extracts of green buckwheat are highly valued components of food additives because of the high concentration of flavonoids (up to 46000ppm) in their sprouts.  The world list of dietary supplements containing buckwheat is very impressive and constantly expanding. Fagopyrum esculentum Moench extract is an avant-garde ingredient making a great impression on the supplement industry.

Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium L) is not an edible fruit but it is a great source of levorotatory vitamin C.  The amount of vitamin C in bitter orange extract may be as high as 42%.  Bitter oranges are much richer in vitamin C than edible oranges.  They are rich not only in vitamin C but also in polyphenols, anthocyanins and other powerful antioxidants such as: bioflavonoids such as hesperidin and narirutina, thiamine, vegetable acids such as folic acid, hydroxycinnamic, caffeic, coumaric, sinapic, ferulic , and also beta-carotene, pro-vitamin, vitamin B1, B2, B6 and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, sodium, selenium and potassium.

In addition to the easily-digestible vitamin C, bitter orange is well known for its synephrine extract - ephedra, a natural substitute already withdrawn from the market.  Synephrine has scientifically proven abilities of stimulating thermogenesis and lipolysis (fat breakdown) processes as well as the ability to reduce appetite.  Therefore, it is a desirable ingredient in the products effectively fighting obesity.

The list of pharmaceutical products and supplements which contain the vitamins and other active substances derived from Citrus aurantium L. is long and contains the best-selling supplements in the world.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. We can’t store it in the body, which means we need it from our diet every day.Most animals can produce their own vitamin C, but humans have lost this ability. The human body does not produce vitamin C in the liver.

There is an increased demand for vitamin C supplements as we cannot always effectively ensure a regular vitamin C intake.  In addition, many adverse factors increasingly put us in a situation where this substance is needed.  An extreme example of the disastrous consequences of vitamin C deficiency is scurvy, a disease that stops collagen production in the body.
